New Delhi: The sudden flood in the border areas of Nepal and Tibet has caused huge devastation. After this natural disaster, hundreds of people are still missing. According to Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, about 300 Indian citizens are also included among the missing. At the same time, the death toll in Nepal has increased to 165.
The Foreign Minister said that information about about 1,500 people missing in the affected areas of Nepal and Tibet has come to light. Of these, about 800 are said to be foreign nationals. Teams of officials are currently busy in making a complete assessment of the damage and locating the missing people. According to Khanal, thousands of families have been affected by this disaster and many people have lost their homes. Relief and rescue teams are continuously trying to reach the affected areas.
The course of the river stopped and then there was flood
On Wednesday, the flow of Lende river, a tributary of Bhote Koshi river, was stopped due to avalanche. After this suddenly the water pressure increased and there was severe flood in three districts of Nepal. The flood water first reached Timure and Rasuwagadhi areas located near the border with Tibet of China. After this, the water rapidly moved towards the low-lying areas and caused huge damage to houses, roads and electricity projects in its path.
165 people died, the figure is expected to increase
According to Nepal Police, so far 165 people have been confirmed dead in the disaster. Police have also warned that the death toll may increase after the search operation resumes. Police spokesperson Abi Narayan Kafle said that rescue teams are searching the affected areas and there is a possibility of finding more bodies during the operation.
Hundreds of people missing in Tibet too
According to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, 558 people have been reported missing in Gyirong County, Tibet. These include 260 foreign citizens. In Nepal too, the work of evacuating stranded people and delivering essential goods is going on with the help of helicopters. In the video surfaced on social media, debris is seen flowing with the strong current of flood.
