Amravati. At least seven people were killed and eight others injured when a private bus and an auto-rickshaw collided in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district early Thursday. Six women were among those killed. Police said the accident occurred near Adda Road in Chilakaluripet in Palanadu district. A private bus going from Vijayawada to Tirupati hit an auto-rickshaw. There were about 15 people in the auto-rickshaw. Seven of them died. Eight other people, including four children, were injured. The injured were admitted to Guntur Government General Hospital and Chilakaluripet Government Hospital.
According to the police, the victims were residents of Veluru village in Chilakaluripet mandal. They were returning from a birthday party at Kondamanjulur in Prakasam district. Four people died on the spot, while two died at Guntur Government General Hospital and one at Chilakaluripet Government Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Bontu Babu (62), Bontu Manemma (55), Sampurnamma (70), Gangamma (50), Lakshmamma (75), Choutupalli Swarthamma (45) and Mariamma (45).Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over this terrible road accident. The Chief Minister expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased. He instructed the officials that the injured should get the best possible treatment and their health should be constantly monitored.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also expressed grief over the road accident. He spoke to the district officials and directed them to ensure better treatment for the injured. Meanwhile, State Home Minister Vangalpudi Anita spoke to the Additional SP of Palanadu regarding the road accident in Chilakaluripet. He inquired about the seriousness of the accident, details of the dead and injured and the status of relief operations. Describing the death of seven people as extremely tragic, Home Minister Anita expressed her deep condolences to the families of the deceased.
He directed the police officers to ensure that the injured get the best treatment and their health is constantly monitored. The Home Minister directed that all aspects of the incident be investigated, including the circumstances leading to the accident, the speed of the bus and any negligence on the part of the driver. Home Minister Anita said that special attention should be paid to enforcing road safety rules in case of private vehicles to prevent such accidents from happening again.
