New Delhi. There was tremendous curiosity among the audience about Kannada cinema superstar Yash's film (Toxic) for the last four years. After blockbuster films like (KGF), expectations from Yash's next film were naturally very high. When Toxic reached theaters after a long wait, the audience reached the theater expecting Yash's new style and a great cinematic experience. However, the opinions expressed after watching the film seem quite different from expectations. Yash's performance in the film is strong and even at the technical level, Toxic impresses at many places, but the weak writing and slow story emerge as the biggest weak points of the film.

At approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes long, it can be expected that Toxic will take some time to establish the story. The film also starts in the same manner and the viewer waits patiently for the story to unfold. The problem starts when even after half the film passes, the story does not take such a strong turn that it can completely engage the audience. There is definitely a big scene around the interval but it also does not leave the same impact that is expected from a film of a big star like Yash. Throughout the film, there remains the hope that the story will pick up pace and there will be a big surprise, but on many occasions this wait turns into disappointment.

The biggest problem of Toxic can be said to be its writing. An attempt has been made to present Yash in a very impressive and dangerous character but in this attempt the story and screenplay seem to be left behind. Many dialogues feel overly dramatic and the dialogue between characters also does not seem natural at times. Seeing Yash, one constantly remembers Rocky Bhai and instead of creating his own identity, the new character of the film seems to be revolving around the same image. This is why the audience may find it difficult to connect emotionally with the character.

However, on the acting front Yash does not disappoint at all. He has a double role in the film and he has tried his best to play both the characters in a different style. Her acting range is especially visible in the character of Raya. Yash's screen presence and stardom is still tremendous but the weak screenplay overshadows his hard work. Nayanthara also looks impressive as Yash's sister in the film and has played her part convincingly. The emotional scenes between the two show potential but the story doesn't develop them to a level where the audience can fully connect.

Toxic offers a better experience on a technical and visual level. The visuals and action sequences of a film can look attractive on the big screen and its impact can be further enhanced in a good theatre. But the real strength of any film is its story and this is where Toxic appears to be weak. From the film that was waited for four years, the audience expected not only stardom and stunning visuals but also a strong story.

Therefore, the biggest complaint about Toxic is not about Yash but about the writing of the film. Yash has given a brilliant performance from his side but the story did not live up to his potential. After a wait of four years, the powerful cinematic experience with which the audience had come to the theater expecting, does not seem to be fully achieved. Now the expectations regarding Yash's next big film Ramayana have increased even more. The question is whether Yash will be able to overcome the disappointment from his previous film or the audience will once again have to wait for expectations.
