India is in constant touch with Nepalese authorities
New Delhi. India on Thursday sent a second consignment of relief material to flood-hit Nepal in a military transport aircraft. New Delhi on Wednesday sent 10 tonnes of HADR (humanitarian assistance and disaster relief) material to the neighboring country.
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said on social media that the second plane has just taken off with 37.5 tonnes of HADR material, medicines and food packets for Nepal. He said, India is in constant touch with Nepalese authorities. We will continue our full cooperation in relief work.
Nepal is battling devastating flash floods near its border with Tibet region that have killed at least 160 people and caused massive destruction. The first consignment of relief material was sent hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to his Nepalese counterpart Balendra Shah. During the conversation, he assured all possible humanitarian assistance to deal with the situation.
After the talks, Modi said on social media, India stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters living in Nepal in this difficult time. He said, India is ready to provide all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal. Our teams are working together for relief and rescue operations. The relief material includes emergency items like tents, blankets, 'hygiene kits', solar lamps and medicines for temporary shelter. According to the information received, India will send more relief material in the next few days.
