Five-day training camp on drone technology begins in Assam University

Shribhoomi: A five-day training camp on drone technology and its applications began at Assam University, Shilchar with an aim to develop technical skills to drone technology and promote innovation and entrepreneurial thinking among students. The program was inaugurated on 25th August in the Department of Agricultural Engineering. The camp will run till 29th August. The camp has been organized by NIT, Shilchar in collaboration with the Department of Agricultural Engineering, 3D Printing Laboratory and Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Assam University.

The program is supported by Jet Aerospace Aviation Research Centre, while technical support is being provided by IHFC, the Technology Innovation Center set up under the Department of Science and Technology, IIT Delhi. In the welcome address, Dr. Ajita Tiwari, Head of Department, Department of Agricultural Engineering, highlighted the importance of such training programs in strengthening technical capacity and promoting innovation in the rapidly evolving field of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology.

During the training, the participants are being given information about the design and operation of UAVs and drones, rules and regulations and their applications in various fields including agriculture, surveillance, mapping and disaster management. The participants are also being given practical training in assembly, calibration and flight operations of the drone. In the training, special emphasis is being laid on developing the technical skills of the undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department of Agricultural Engineering and encouraging new and innovative ideas in the field of drone technology.

On this occasion, Professor Debamalya Ghosh highlighted the important role of such programs in developing entrepreneurial mindset among the youth. He said that skill development is an important medium to transform the creativity and knowledge of youth into practical and innovative enterprises. Dr. Ranjan Hazra and Dr. Badal of NIT, Shilchar also described the training camp as an important initiative towards capacity building. He informed the participants about possible apprenticeship opportunities available after completing the training. Technical sessions on drone structure, control system, integration of various devices and its applications in agriculture, surveillance, mapping and disaster management are being conducted by experts from partner institutions.
