This year the holy festival of Rakshabandhan will be celebrated on 28th August. A unique tradition of Rakshabandhan is followed in many places in India, where sisters tie Rakhi to their brothers as well as their sisters-in-law. Rakshabandhan is a festival which is considered a symbol of affection and love between brother and sister. According to religious experts, the most auspicious time to tie Rakhi will be from 6.08 am to 10.53 am. What is the tradition of Lumba Rakhi?

Lumba Rakhi is a Rakhi which looks like a bracelet or bangle. According to religious tradition, when sisters tie Rakhi to their sisters-in-law, it strengthens the bond between sister and sister-in-law. Also, by tying Rakhi on the sister-in-law's wrist, the brother's life is also considered linked to his wife. This is associated with the feeling of supporting the brother in his happiness and sorrow.

In Sanatan Dharma, wife is considered the better half of her husband. When a person gets married, performing any puja or religious work without his wife is considered incomplete. Similarly, it is believed that just tying Rakhi to brother on the day of Rakshabandhan is incomplete. Therefore, there is a tradition of tying Rakhi to brother's life partner i.e. sister-in-law also.

In Rajasthan, Rakhi is tied to the sister-in-law along with the brother. While thread rakhi is tied to brothers, there is a tradition of tying rakhi with beads and pendants to sisters-in-law. Earlier, this tradition was followed only in Marwari families of Rajasthan.

Now this tradition has become popular in many parts of the country. For this reason, now many women living in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh also tie Rakhi to their sisters-in-law. Brothers give gifts to their sisters on Rakshabandhan. Similarly, sisters-in-law also give gifts to their sisters-in-law. Like every year, this year too many sisters will tie Rakhi to their sisters-in-law.
