After this disaster in Nepal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared the information of his conversation on the social media platform X. He wrote, “Spoke to Prime Minister of Nepal Balendra Shah and expressed his deepest condolences on the loss of lives due to floods there. The people of India stand in full solidarity with our brothers and sisters of Nepal in this difficult time of crisis. India is ready to provide all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal. Our teams are working closely together on relief and rescue operations.”

This message of PM Modi has once again given a clear message to the world that whenever any major trouble comes across the border, India will be the first to stand forward to help its neighbour.

India's help on the ground: deployment of NDRF and relief material

Immediately after this conversation between Prime Minister Modi and Balen Shah, all the relief agencies of the Government of India came into action mode. India has taken several concrete steps to provide assistance to the flood affected areas of Nepal:

• NDRF teams ready: Special troops and rescue experts of India's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been put on alert mode near the Nepal border to provide immediate ground support on demand by the Nepalese administration.
• Emergency Medical Supplies: In view of the danger of spread of infectious diseases after the floods, a large consignment of essential medicines, water purification tablets and first-aid kits is being sent to Nepal.
• Food items and tents: Emergency shelters, warm blankets and dry ration are being rapidly delivered to the affected districts of Nepal for the affected people rendered homeless.

From the earthquake of 2015 to the floods of 2026: India always became the first helper.

This is not the first time that India has become a support to crisis-hit Nepal. History is witness to the fact that whenever a major natural disaster has hit Nepal, India's response has been the fastest and largest.

In 2015, when a devastating earthquake of 7.8 magnitude occurred in Nepal, India saved thousands of lives by running 'Operation Maitri' and provided billions of rupees of assistance for reconstruction works. After this, even during the Corona epidemic, India was the first to send vaccine doses and medical oxygen cylinders to Nepal.

Now when the sudden flood from Tibet has caused huge devastation in more than six districts of Nepal, India has become the first country to extend a helping hand.

Districts like Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot and Gorkha of Nepal are currently completely buried under water and debris. Due to the sudden rise in the water level of rivers, many remote villages have been completely cut off from the rest of Nepal. Due to washed away roads, providing relief by land route is proving to be extremely challenging. In such a situation, the relief material, helicopters and modern rescue equipment received from India can prove to be a lifeline for Nepal.
