New Delhi: The Central Government has prepared a big plan to further strengthen the country's railway network. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has informed about the plan to four-lane the high-density railway network. A large part of the country's passenger and freight traffic depends on these major railway routes.
11 thousand kilometer network will be upgraded
The total length of these seven high-density routes is about 11 thousand kilometers. The special thing is that they constitute about 16 percent of the total network of Indian Railways, but about 41 percent of the rail traffic passes through them. In such a situation, increasing the capacity of these routes is being considered very important.
These 7 major routes will be four-lane
The routes that the government has identified under the high-density network include:
Delhi-Howrah
Howrah-Chennai
Chennai-Mumbai
Mumbai-Delhi
Delhi-Chennai
Mumbai-Howrah
Delhi-Guwahati
Construction of additional lines on these routes will help in increasing the capacity of operating trains.
Passengers and freight will benefit
The objective of the four-lane network is to reduce traffic pressure on busy railway routes and create adequate capacity to handle more trains. With this, along with passenger transportation, freight transportation can also be handled in a better way.
According to the Railway Minister, the aim of this scheme is not only to increase the capacity of railways, but also to reduce transportation costs and promote cleaner mobility. This will help in making the country's rail network more modern and efficient in the coming times.
