In the first two days, India maintained its dominance in batting and scored a huge score of 503 runs. After this, their bowlers performed brilliantly and took a huge lead of 213 runs in the first innings and forced the opposition team to follow-on. Sonal Dinusha scored a century in the first innings, while Suriyabandara played a fighting inning of 80 runs. Even after getting the follow-on, both these batsmen again showed excellent performance; Suriyabandara scored 92 and Dinusha continued to fight hard and scored his third century of the series – the most by any batsman in this series.
Keshara Nuvantha's important contribution in both the innings also cannot be forgotten; The youngster showed great composure and strongly supported Sonal Dinusha from the other end. After the fall of the sixth wicket, Sri Lanka's lower order batsmen played tenaciously and together spent almost 90 overs at the crease. This was the reason why Sri Lanka did not declare the innings, because they did not want to give India a chance to chase the target on a pitch which was very favorable for batting.
