Now your favorite food will reach your train seat! Swiggy extends 'Food on Train' service to 201 stations, demand for Lassi-Mojito increases

New Delhi. The 'Food on Train' service of 'Swiggy', an online platform that supplies food and beverages, has now expanded to 201 railway stations. In the year 2024, the facility to order food in trains was available at 66 railway stations. Swiggy said on Thursday that many other stations including Kolhapur, Wardha, Shahdol, Kakinada, Bharatpur, Chittoor, Thanjavur, Raigarh, Jamnagar, Indore and Tundla have been included in the network of this service.

Siddharth Bhaku, Chief Business Officer, Swiggy Food Marketplace, said the 'Food on Train' service has grown manifold since its launch in March 2024 and has been adopted by passengers of different age groups, including 'Gen-G'. The company also sees a lot of potential in affordable food options. The company also shared information about the changing eating habits of train passengers.

Passengers move from fast food to healthy drinks

According to him, in more than a year, passengers' preferences have shifted from 'fast food' and 'carbonated drinks' to healthier and refreshing options. Compared to last year, travelers are preferring traditional and refreshing drinks. Lassi orders have increased by 60 percent, buttermilk by 40 percent and mojito orders by 90 percent.

Highest demand for thali in train

The demand for traditional and regional food in the 'Food on Train' service has also increased. The share of thali orders is more than 65 percent. Orders for sweets have also more than doubled, with Rasgulla leading the way. Passengers are also ordering local famous dishes at their seats in the train. Onion Kachori is the best-selling dish at Jaipur Junction, while Poha features in the top 10 breakfast options in Bhopal.

Good sale of famous 'Tunda Kebab' with Biryani

According to the company, the demand for different varieties of local biryani is highest at stations in South and Central India. The famous 'Tunda Kebab' along with Biryani is selling well in Lucknow also. Swiggy reported that Haldiram's thalis are being liked the most in Nagpur, while thalis featuring local seafood are among the most ordered dishes at Goa's Madgaon station.
