Former Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee is once again in controversy. The matter pertains to books taken from the assembly library. The state government has asked Mamata Banerjee to return these books. It is being told that he had taken 19 books from the library and the time to return them has now passed. The government says that if the books are not returned then further action can be taken under the library rules.

Mamta Banerjee has told the officials that she does not have these books. Library officials say that the books have not been returned yet. The dispute seems to be increasing between the government and Mamata Banerjee regarding this matter.

What will happen if the books are not returned?

State government minister Gauri Shankar Ghosh has said that as per the library rules, a fine can be imposed for not returning the book after the stipulated time. If a book is lost or damaged, it has to be compensated by replacing it with a new copy. He said that in the case of Mamata Banerjee also, action will be taken as per the rules of the library.

According to Ghosh, library officials have asked Mamata Banerjee several times to return the books. Notices were also sent for this but no reply has been received yet. He said that if the books are not returned, legal action can be taken if necessary. Officials have also been told that the books are not with Mamata Banerjee. Sources say that these books may be kept in the Chief Minister's room. At present, Subhendu Adhikari sits in that room in place of the current Chief Minister.

Controversy over Mamta's books too

Along with this matter, controversy has also arisen regarding the books written by Mamata Banerjee. Minister Gauri Shankar Ghosh has alleged that earlier instructions were given to government libraries to purchase books written by Mamata Banerjee. He specifically mentioned a book named 'Epang Opang Jhapang'.

Ghosh said that such books will not be kept in government libraries which they do not consider essential. He says that now in libraries, more attention will be given to books to Indian history and culture along with people like Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Syama Prasad Mukherjee.
