However, not every short PIN is secure. Common PINs like 1234, 0000 and 1111 should not be used at all. It is easy to estimate such numbers. Similarly, you should not keep your date of birth, last digit of mobile number or any such number as PIN, which can be easily guessed by your acquaintances.

If your smartphone has the option to set a PIN of six or more digits, then it can be used. A PIN that is too long and unique can make it difficult for someone else to guess. In modern smartphones, many security measures are activated when the wrong PIN is repeatedly entered. These may include being locked out for a period of time and increasing the waiting time before the next attempt. But it is important to understand that the PIN of the smartphone and the password of the online account are not the same thing. Strong and unique passwords should be used for email, social media, banking and other online services. Using the same password on multiple accounts should be avoided.

To increase the security of online accounts, it is very important to activate Two-Factor Authentication i.e. 2FA. After 2FA is activated, the account cannot be accessed using the password alone, but an additional verification is required. This provides an additional layer of security to the account even in case the password is leaked. Overall, smartphone security does not depend only on long passwords. A strong and unique PIN for phones, while using different strong passwords and 2FA for online accounts is a more secure approach. Also, you should avoid sharing your PIN or password with anyone.
