Pakuria, Pakur, Jharkhand:- Cleanliness plays an important role in social progress. For this purpose, the government runs cleanliness campaigns on a large scale from cities to villages and lakhs of rupees are spent on it, so that people can get a clean environment. However, these days the expected effect of the cleanliness campaign is not visible in Pakuria market.

It is said that heaps of garbage are accumulated at many places around the road from Pakuria-Pakud PWD main road to Haat courtyard, from Gramin Bank to Ram-Sita Chowk and from Ram-Sita Chowk to Zilla Parishad and Dak Bungalow. These include plastic, polythene, various types of gutkha packets and other waste. Dirt filled in sacks is also lying at many places. At the same time, the situation has become more serious due to accumulation of garbage in ponds and contaminated water in paved drains.

During the discussion in this regard, local citizens said that most of the people clean their houses and surroundings, but do not dispose of the garbage properly by depositing it at the designated place. Many people fill plastic and other waste in sacks and throw them on roadsides, around ponds and in empty places. Due to this, filth is gradually spreading in the entire market. The cleanliness system is being affected due to throwing of garbage on the roads, vacant places and around the ponds of various hamlets of Pakuria market. Villagers say that due to filth the environment gets polluted and the risk of diseases can also increase.

To prevent dirt, dustbins were provided by the government in Panchayats, but at present dustbins are not visible in many places. However, in many places in remote rural areas relatively less filth is seen. Local people say that the role of citizens is most important in solving the problem of cleanliness. People should throw garbage at designated places only and avoid throwing garbage in public places, ponds and drains.

Along with this, Panchayat representatives and administrative officers should also do regular monitoring and take necessary action to make the cleanliness campaign effective, so that the government cleanliness campaign can succeed in its objective.
