New Delhi: An important update has come out for the people waiting for a new connection of domestic LPG. Booking of new domestic LPG connections in the country is currently closed amid ongoing tensions in West Asia and supply problems to the Strait of Hormuz. Companies are currently giving priority to providing cylinder refills to existing customers.
The government said the ban is temporary
According to the Petroleum Ministry, a temporary ban has been imposed on new LPG connections in view of the current geopolitical circumstances. The government says that new connections can be started again after the situation becomes normal. At present, priority is being given to gas supply of old customers.
Renewal of old connection
New connections for 14.2 kg domestic cylinders are not being issued from March 2026. Those who already have a connection are being given refills. Old connections that have been closed for a long time are being renewed as per the rules. Also, customers are being asked to update KYC.
What are the options for new connection?
Due to closure of booking for new connections, some distributors are advising to take 5 kg and 10 kg options. 10 kg FTL LPG cylinder is also available in big cities, which can be booked as per requirement.
LPG purchases from America increased
After the West Asia crisis, India has increased its approach to America for the purchase of LPG and LNG. The cost of US LPG may be higher due to long sea distances. The government is currently emphasizing on maintaining the availability of LPG in the country through both domestic production and import. That is, no fixed date has been announced yet for the start of booking of new domestic LPG connections. The government has called it a temporary stop and has expressed hope that the connection will resume once the situation becomes stable.
