Chouhan is also expected to hold a Kisan Chaupal during his visit, where he will interact directly with farmers and address their concerns - a move seen as part of BJP's push to strengthen its footing among Punjab's farming community ahead of the polls. If senior leaders are to be believed, this is the first time that BJP will be participating in the fair- known as Rakhar Punya. This signifies BJP establishing itself as a force in Punjab. Sources said it assumes significance as Rakhar Punya which is also known as Rakhi Purnima as it also becomes a platform for Punjab's political parties to showcase their strength. With poll bound Punjab in focus, Bharatiya Janata Party is leaving no leaf unturned to woo people of Punjab by assimilating in it's culture, recognising religiosity and making an effort to woo Sikh population too through this. Boots on the ground, BJP has begun strategising on the issues that are going to become core issues in the polls. For example- BL Santhosh on it's recent pravas where he toured and met BJP leaders in all five organisational zones, directions sent to sent out anti drug yatras. Later in the month Punjab in-charge Satish Poonia will be travelling to Punjab too for organisational meetings. His tour will begin on Aug 31 and will continue till September 2. As the alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal is still on, it will give BJP a firm footing in pressing upon Akalia it's relevance and groundwork in the poll bound state. The intent is to show Akali that they have not much to loose and will gain ground eventually. BL Santhosh, national general secretary organisation had a two day five zone meeting with the party leaders. While Santosh said that BJP will contest on all 117 assembly seats, many are interpreting it as posturing to boost morale of the cadre. Sources stated that negotiations on seats are still on between BJP and SAD. SAD too is hopeful of an alliance and that for many is the reason why Akali chief Sukhbir Singh Badal had met PM Narendra Modi recently during the parliament.
