Chandigarh: Taking a big step towards making Punjab garbage free, Local Government Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains today announced a 10-day special cleanliness drive from August 29 to September 7 to eliminate all Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVP) across the state.

Addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan here today, Mr. Harjot Bains said that this 10-day campaign is being organized by Chief Minister Shri. It will provide further impetus to the ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ initiative of the Bhagwant Singh Mann led state government. Under this, senior officers are already conducting ground level inspections from 7 am to 8 am every day.

S. Bains said, “Punjab is the sacred land of our gurus and saints and spirituality is embedded in every bit of it. It is our collective responsibility to keep it clean, beautiful and neat. All MLAs, Deputy Commissioners, Municipal Corporation Commissioners, Additional Deputy Commissioners, EOs and NGOs will take part in this campaign.”

He said that citizens can also register for GVP in their areas through Punjab Government’s ‘M-Seva’ app. You can participate in this campaign by uploading photos. A separate ID for each complaint. Will be ready, through which citizens will be able to track their complaints and immediate action will be taken to ensure cleanliness of the concerned place.

The Local Government Minister said that this campaign will focus on complete cleaning of garbage accumulation sites in every city and town. He told that there are 600 GVP in big cities like Amritsar and about 450 in Patiala. Has been identified. S. “During the next 10 days, all MLAs and officials will conduct ground level inspections every morning to eliminate GVP. I will also be present in the field myself,” Bains said.

S. Harjot Bains called upon the citizens to join this mission and said that this is not just a government campaign but a people’s movement. He laid special emphasis on the respect of sanitation workers and said that it is our duty to ensure that their efforts do not go in vain due to our irresponsible behavior.

Referring to the late night inspection during the cleanliness drive in Amritsar, he laid special emphasis on the respect of the Safai Sevaks. Minister Harjot Singh Bains asked people to download the M-Seva app, upload photographs of garbage vulnerable points in their areas and create a unique ID for each complaint to monitor the cleanliness drive. “The entire campaign will be monitored through a dedicated system. Special teams will be formed in each Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council to ensure effective and timely disposal of the identified points,” he said.
