Top Bank Defaulters: Recently, a decision has been taken regarding Subhash Chandra, founder of Essel Group and Zee Entertainment, in which his loan of Rs 22 crore has been canceled for just Rs 6.5 crore. It is believed that this is the biggest case of loan waiver. But, if seen, there are many such defaulters in the country even today, who are sitting there after digesting the public money. Some time ago, the government had prepared a list of defaulters in Parliament who owed Rs 40,635 crore to banks.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that ABG Shipyard Limited tops the list, which owes Rs 6,695 crore to banks. These are such defaulters who are deliberately not paying back the bank loan. Let us know about the complete list of these defaulters.
Who has how much debt outstanding?
According to the data presented in Parliament, ABG Shipyard Limited owes Rs 6,695 crore. After this, Gitanjali Gems has an outstanding amount of Rs 6,236 crore, which has not been paid yet. After this comes Beta Naphthol which has a loan of Rs 5268 crore. Rakesh Kumar Kuldeep Singh Wadhawan owes Rs 4,291 crore.
The former directors of Bhushan Power and Steel Limited owe banks Rs 3,810 crore, which has not been paid yet. After this, Raza Textiles is in the list of defaulters, which has a loan of Rs 3260 crore. Gilt Pack has an outstanding loan of Rs 3,080 crore while Rank Industries has an outstanding loan of Rs 2,655 crore. At the same time, Rs 2,540 crore is outstanding on housing development and infrastructure.
The list will be submitted on monthly basis
Sitharaman told Parliament that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), through the Master Guidelines issued on ‘Dealing with Willful Defaulters and Major Defaulters’, has advised lenders to submit the list of willful defaulters to all Credit Information Companies (CICs) on a monthly basis. Along with this, it is necessary for CICs to display this list on their respective websites. He said that as per the information received from RBI, any bank can make compromise settlement in respect of those accounts which have been kept in the category of willful defaulters.
