Kathmandu. People have not yet recovered from the devastation caused by floods in Nepal that once again the threat of major floods is looming in Nuwakot district. Police in Dhunde Bazaar and surrounding areas have warned people to immediately move to safe places. According to officials, after water comes from above, flood water can reach the area in the next 20 to 25 minutes.

In Dhunde Bazaar, police and administration teams were seen removing people from the river bank. Announcements are being made in the area appealing to people to vacate houses and shops and go to safe places. The police clearly warned the people that the danger is increasing and any kind of carelessness can prove costly.

Local officials said that the people present on the banks of the river are being shifted to safe places. Police are continuously roaming around the area and warning people. Officials fear that the flow of the river may increase suddenly due to release of water in the upper areas or some natural phenomenon.

Officials at the local level have described this possible flood as many times more serious than before. This is why immediate evacuation has been started in the affected areas as a precautionary measure.

One tragedy after another

Nuwakot was among the areas which were badly affected by the recent Bhotekoshi-Trishuli floods. Many roads and bridges are already damaged and relief operations are underway. In such a situation, the possibility of another heavy flood has increased the concern of the administration.

At present, the police and local administration are busy taking people to safe places. Officials say that the situation is being constantly monitored and any change in the water level of the river is being taken seriously.

Water overflowed from the lake which was about to burst.

Amidst the floods in Nepal, China's official media CCTV has reported that the dammed lake built upstream of Gyirong Border Port has now started overflowing. According to the local district officer, he has received information that the lake has crossed its banks and the water level of the river is also seen rising rapidly.

For this reason, as a precautionary measure, the Nepali Army has stopped the rescue operation for the next 1 hour 30 minutes. That is, the lake in which there was already danger due to accumulation of water and its possible breakage, has now started flowing downwards from the same lake. Due to this, there is a danger of sudden rise in water in the downstream areas and relief and rescue teams have to be extremely careful at the moment.
