Raphinha continued to underline his credentials as a possible answer to Barcelona’s shortage at centre-forward on Thursday evening, scoring for the third time in only two appearances at the start of the new season.
Barcelona are, of course, currently in action domestically. After beginning the campaign with a heavy win over Elche, Hansi Flick’s side welcomed Athletic Club to the Catalan capital for a La Liga meeting.
Raphinha started the match and was flanked by Anthony Gordon on one side and Lamine Yamal on the other.
And, as mentioned above, the Brazilian wasted little time in making another strong case to continue as Barcelona’s No. 9 in the coming weeks, and possibly even months.
After Pedri burst clear through midfield, Raphinha made a perfectly timed run in behind the Athletic back line, rounded Unai Simón and finished with confidence.
Importantly, the move came with him operating in a central role, adding to the three direct goal contributions he produced from the same position in Barcelona’s season opener last weekend.
With the final days of the transfer window drawing near, and Deco and company still unable to land a new striker, Hansi Flick may well have found his solution in Raphinha.
