DU PhD Admission 2026: Delhi University (DU) has offered a significant opportunity to students aspiring to build a research career. The university has invited applications for admission to PhD programs for the 2026-27 academic session. Notably, students who have completed the Four-Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP) under the National Education Policy (NEP) are now also eligible to apply directly for the PhD program.
According to the notice issued by Delhi University, the application process began on August 27 and will continue until September 6, 2026. Interested students can apply online via the university's PhD Admission Portal.
Who is eligible?
Eligibility for DU's PhD program is open to students who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree from DU-affiliated colleges. However, there is a minimum CGPA requirement for eligibility:
Minimum 7.5 CGPA for UR, OBC-NCL, and EWS categories.
Minimum 7.0 CGPA for SC, ST, and PwBD categories.
Entrance exam required for admission
DU has clarified that applicants must appear for an entrance examination conducted by the respective department or the university. The final decision regarding the admission process will be determined at the departmental level.
What is the application fee?
Candidates are required to pay a separate fee for each program applied for:
UR, OBC-NCL, and EWS: ₹250 per program
SC, ST, and PwBD: ₹100 per program
The university has clarified that the fee, once paid, is non-refundable under any circumstances.
Advice to appear for UGC-NET and CSIR exams
DU has advised candidates to also appear for examinations such as UGC-NET or CSIR. Doing so may enable them to avail benefits related to research fellowships and financial support. Keep an eye on the website.
