Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates frequently makes predictions about the future. He has now made a concerning prediction regarding artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

In an article published on his blog, Bill Gates called for certain fields to be reserved for humans so that AI technology does not replace them. He predicted that the advancement of this technology will lead to the disappearance of numerous jobs.

He said, “I believe that as AI and robots improve, we should reserve certain fields for humans.” He explained that this would be similar to the way certain natural areas are protected to prevent them from being damaged.

He added, “Just as humans are needed in the medical field, imagine a robot informing you that you have an incurable disease. That should not happen.” The article marks Bill Gates first public statement after his name surfaced in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

Gates has previously expressed regret over his association with Epstein. In his article, Gates warned that governments around the world are not prepared for the scale of AI’s impact.

He said that the top priority should be to develop international and national frameworks for AI. He noted that following the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. government made some of the biggest changes in its history to strengthen national security but AI requires an even greater level of preparation.

According to Gates, AI could affect not only national security but also jobs, education, energy, elections, air and water, public health, financial systems, law enforcement, transportation and virtually every other area of life.

Bill Gates also said that some level of cooperation between the United States and China is necessary for global collaboration. He also expressed concerns about the impact of AI technology on education. Gates has spoken about AI on numerous occasions in the past.

During an interview in March 2025, he said that within a decade, AI technology could advance to such an extent that humans would no longer be needed for most tasks around the world. Bill Gates said that humans are currently needed as experts in fields such as medicine and education.

However, he predicted that over the next decade, AI technology could take over many of the roles currently performed by doctors and teachers.

In an interview in February 2025, he said that advances in AI technologies would become accessible to everyone and would reach almost every aspect of human life. He further said that AI and virtual assistants would significantly improve the process of diagnosing diseases.

Bill Gates said, “It is happening very rapidly and it is somewhat frightening because it is happening at such a tremendous speed.” This is not the first time Bill Gates has expressed both excitement and concern about AI technology.

In September 2024, Gates predicted that AI could significantly accelerate progress in the fields of education and medicine. He said, “This is the first technology that is advancing even faster than experts expected.”

He warned that AI technology could put the jobs of people working across numerous sectors at risk. He said that “AI technology could have a greater impact than computers, phones and the internet. It is the biggest technological advancement of my lifetime.”

He predicted that within a decade, sectors such as education and healthcare would undergo significant transformation.

Bill Gates also suggested that AI could shorten the working week and reduce the need for traditional full-time employment. He said that, in the long term, having a job may become less important and he believes that could be a good thing.
