Only four identified out of 233 dead bodies found in Narayani river of Chitwan

So far, only four people have been identified among the 233 bodies found in the Narayani river in Chitwan.

Chief of District Police Office Chitwan, SP Rameshwar Paudel said that out of the four bodies identified, three bodies have been taken by their family members. At the same time, despite the identification of one body, the family members have not been able to take the body yet due to being abroad.

Assistant Inspector of Police (ASI) Ramkaji Paudel of Betravati police post was cremated on Friday. After the body found in Narayani river was identified, the family took the body and performed the last rites at Devghat.

A total of 10 policemen were working at Betravati police post. Nine of these policemen managed to escape safely after the flood, but Paudel went missing.

Similarly, the body of Kaviraj Chaudhary of Banke was also found in Chitwan. His family members received the body on Friday. Bodies of Ramesh Magar of Makwanpur and Bhuvan Thapa Magar of Rasuwa were also found in Chitwan.

Ramesh’s family has taken the body, while Bhuvan’s family members living abroad are preparing to return to Nepal on Saturday.

Out of the 230 bodies left in Chitwan, 77 bodies are kept outside the hospital. According to SP Paudel, these bodies have been kept in the premises of the Industry Commerce Association.

He said, “Due to lack of space in the hospital, 77 bodies have been kept in the Commerce Union. Arrangements have been made there to preserve the bodies with ice.”

So far 62 hands, feet and claws have also been found in Chitwan. These have also been kept in the premises of the Industry Commerce Association.

According to police, 158 bodies have been kept in Bharatpur hospital. The remaining bodies are kept in Narayani Hospital, National City Hospital and Community Hospital.

The death toll from the devastating floods in Rasuwa on Wednesday morning has reached 579. Hundreds of people are still missing after the flood and their search is on.
