In Assam's Cachar district, a joint team of Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Silchar, seized approximately 5.60 lakh methamphetamine, or yaba, tablets valued at around Rs 168 crore. The consignment weighed about 60 kilograms, and one suspected drug peddler and the truck allegedly used to transport the drugs were also seized.

The operation was conducted on the night of Tuesday and Wednesday in the Jujang Pahar area of ​​Lakhipur in Cachar district. According to officials, the consignment is suspected to have originated in neighboring Manipur and was allegedly being transported through Assam to other parts of the country.

Assam Rifles and the DRI's Silchar unit had received information about the movement of a large consignment of narcotics. Following the information, the agencies launched a targeted operation in Cachar and monitored a suspected vehicle in the Jujang Pahar area before stopping and searching it.

The search led to the recovery of approximately 5,60,000 methamphetamine, or yaba, tablets. Officials said the tablets weighed around 60 kilograms and had an estimated market value of more than Rs 168 crore.

One person was detained during the operation and was described by officials as an alleged drug peddler. Investigating agencies are examining the source of the consignment and the people allegedly involved in its movement.

The truck allegedly used to transport the narcotics was also seized, according to officials. The accused, seized material and vehicle were handed over to the concerned agencies for further legal action.
