Ahmedabad, 28 August 2026: Union Home Minister Amit Shah had organized a high-level review meeting in Ahmedabad regarding India's preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and India's bid to host the 2036 Olympics. Union Sports Festival Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi were also present in this important meeting. Giving information on the social media platform 'X', Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the Modi government is fully committed to establishing India as a global sports hub by organizing international sports events. He reviewed the preparations for hosting the 2036 Olympics in Ahmedabad as well as the 2029 Police and Fire Games and 2030 Commonwealth Games. The role of the Union Home Ministry will be very important in planning security arrangements and other logistics during these international games.

After a long gap, the Commonwealth Games is returning to India after almost two decades and it will be organized grandly in Ahmedabad in the year 2030. Earlier in the year 2010, New Delhi had hosted these games for the first time. Ahmedabad city is also in the race to host the upcoming 2036 Olympics. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, who also holds the sports department, is representing Ahmedabad in talks with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Currently, India is in the 'Continuous Dialogue' stage of the selection process to host the 2036 Olympics and a final decision on India's candidature is not likely to be taken before 2029. Additionally, the 'World Police and Fire Games' will be held in Ahmedabad ahead of the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, which will be the first major multi-festival international competition to be held in the city. Ten thousand players from about 70 countries will participate in this global event.
