Homestay Business: The government has launched a new initiative to boost tourism in Bihar and increase the income of people living in rural areas. Under this scheme, villagers can convert rooms in their homes into homestays to provide accommodation for tourists and earn money.
The primary objective of the Homestay Promotion Scheme is to promote rural tourism and create new employment opportunities for local residents. You will receive financial aid from the government to help you easily set up a homestay and earn extra income through tourism.
Who can apply?
This scheme is primarily intended for those who wish to develop their homes into homestays or upgrade existing homestays they operate. Please note that government employees, contractual workers, and those currently employed by the central or state government are not eligible for this scheme. The government has designed this initiative specifically to encourage rural residents, women, self-help groups (SHGs), and young entrepreneurs.
How much subsidy will be provided?
Homestay operators will receive a subsidy of up to ₹2.5 lakh per room.
Beneficiaries from the general category can receive a maximum subsidy of up to ₹10 lakh.
Additionally, women entrepreneurs, self-help groups (SHGs), and young people aged 18 to 25 receive an extra benefit of ₹25,000.
This can bring the total financial assistance to ₹11 lakh.

First, ensure you have your Aadhaar card, PAN card, bank account details, and land ownership documents ready. Next, visit the official Bihar Tourism portal at https://tourism.bihar.gov.in/ and sign up using your mobile number. Finally, fill in all the required details and submit your application. You can avail of this benefit after verification.
