New Delhi: After the horrific flash flood in Nepal, many questions were being raised regarding foreign aid. Has Nepal refused foreign help? Now the Nepal government has given its reply on this. The government has clearly said that it has not rejected the help of any friendly country or international community. The government said that in the initial phase, priority was given to deploying its own security forces as much as possible.

Why given priority to security forces?

Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal made the government’s stand clear on Friday. He said that the strategy of the rescue operation has been decided keeping in mind Nepal’s own capacity, immediate needs and the special geographical location of the country.

He said that Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police personnel are well aware of the local situation. He has knowledge of the difficult hilly terrain and weather here. In such a situation, priority was given to greater deployment of these forces in the initial phase.

The Foreign Minister also said that sending foreign rescue teams to unknown areas could create difficulties in coordination. Some problems may also arise at the technical level and new risks may arise. Therefore, Nepal conducted initial rescue operations based on its available capacity.

587 deaths, more than 1900 missing, bridges and roads destroyed

In fact, the devastating flood that occurred in Nepal on Wednesday has caused huge devastation in many areas. Rasuwa and other parts of central Nepal have been most affected. According to Nepal Police, at least 587 people have died so far in the disaster and more than 1900 people are still reported missing. Along with houses, roads, bridges and power projects have also been badly affected in the floods.

Nepal will take help of foreign teams if needed

The Nepal government has made it clear that it is ready to take international help in difficult circumstances. Especially where special technical expertise is required, the help of foreign teams will be taken.

In this series, Nepal has sought help from India and China in building Bailey Bridge. More than three dozen bridges have been washed away in the floods and connectivity to many areas has been lost. The government has sought the help of both the neighboring countries in building about 42 bailey bridges.

Bailey bridges are temporary bridges that can be constructed in a short period of time. Nepal hopes that with the help of India and China, connectivity will be restored in the affected areas soon. Two consignments of relief material have been delivered to Nepal from India.
