At the same time, China’s government media reported on the flood and also sent journalists to the affected area. But the main emphasis in the coverage was on relief and rescue operations. The broader picture of the devastation was relatively less visible.

According to Steve Tsang, director of the China Institute of SOAS University of London, China views activities to Tibet from a national security perspective.
