New Delhi: The sudden flood and inundation in Nepal caused devastation in many areas. Indian pilgrims returning from Kailash Mansarovar Yatra described the scary conditions there. According to the passengers, there were some moments when they felt that it was difficult to escape. Water, debris and falling mountains were visible all around.

Flood was just 100 meters away from death

An Indian pilgrim who returned to Delhi from Nepal said that suddenly on Wednesday morning the flood water started moving rapidly towards him. The flood came so fast that people did not even get time to recover. He told that the water was about 100 meters away from him and to save his life he immediately ran towards a safe place. The pilgrim said that at that time he was only concerned about saving his life. He called it God’s grace that he could get out safely.

Roads closed, ground started slipping

Passengers told that they were stuck in a very inaccessible area. Many roads were closed due to water and debris. At some places the ground was slipping and at some places debris was continuously coming down from the mountain. People were not able to understand what a safe place was.

In such difficult times, Nepal Army launched a relief operation and airlifted the stranded Indians to safe places. After this, return of passengers to India became possible.

The entire area was washed away before our eyes.

An eyewitness working in Nepal told that he was standing at the height of the mountain. Suddenly, with a loud noise, a huge flood of water and debris started coming downwards. Within no time, buildings and roads were affected by it.

He told that workers and local people started running towards higher heights to save their lives. Within a few minutes the entire area was filled with screams. This scene was so horrifying that even he himself fell into shock.

Many families still missing

Flood has turned many markets and settlements of Nepal into debris. People in the affected areas are searching for their missing relatives. A local man said that around 40 members of his family were missing and they were still unable to find out their whereabouts.

Lack of space even in mortuaries

After the disaster, another big challenge has arisen before the relief and rescue teams. Due to the large number of dead bodies recovered, there is shortage of space in the local mortuary. Authorities have to make temporary arrangements to keep the bodies safe and for the identification process.
