The situation is being continuously monitored by the district administration in view of the increase in water level upstream of Obra Dam due to rainfall in the catchment area of Obra Dam and flow of water from Rihand and Obra Hydropower House.
In view of the water level of Obra Dam exceeding the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 193.24 meters and reaching 193.25 meters and the continuous rise in the water level, Gate No. 8 was opened by 3 feet after completing the necessary formalities at 2:35 pm on 26/27 August 2026. At present all three hydroelectric turbines of the dam are operating. About 14,404 cusecs of water is being extracted through turbines and about 3,600 cusecs of water is being extracted through gates. On August 27, at 8 am, the water level of Obra Dam was recorded at 193.20 meters.
District Magistrate Charcharat Gaur has instructed the concerned officers to continuously monitor the water level in Obra Dam and its downstream areas and ensure all necessary preparations in view of possible situations. He instructed the concerned Deputy District Magistrates, Tehsil and Block level officers to remain alert in sensitive areas and ensure immediate necessary action if necessary.
The water level of Rihand Dam was also recorded at 868.60 feet at 8 am on August 27, which is close to its full capacity of 870 feet. At present about 17,385 cusecs of water is being extracted through the turbines of Rihand Hydropower House. In view of the possibility of opening the gates of Rihand Dam in case the water level is not normal, the district administration is keeping special monitoring of the situation.
The District Magistrate has appealed to the general public that people living in the downstream areas of Renu River and Son River should not go to the river banks or waterlogged areas unnecessarily and follow the instructions issued by the administration. In case of any emergency, immediately inform the concerned tehsil and district administration.
The district administration is ensuring necessary arrangements to deal with the possible flood situation by maintaining coordination with the officials of the Irrigation Department, Hydropower Department, Revenue Department, Police and other departments. The situation is being continuously monitored and further action will be taken as per requirement.
