The demand for electric and hybrid vehicles is increasing rapidly in the Indian automobile market. Amidst this changing trend, MG Hector Tomahawk has made the competition more interesting by entering with both plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains.

In the hybrid version, it is expected to compete with the popular Toyota Innova Hycross, while in the electric avatar, it challenges the Mahindra XEV 9S. In such a situation, if you are preparing to buy a new SUV, then it is important to compare these three models in terms of price, power, range and mileage.

Hector Tomahawk PHEV vs Innova Hycross

Talking about the plug-in hybrid version, MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV has a 20.5 kWh battery pack with a 1.5-litre petrol engine. This setup is said to be capable of delivering a power of around 198 bhp and a claimed mileage of around 40 kmpl.

The full-tank range of this SUV is said to be around 1,100 km, making it an attractive option for customers traveling long distances.

The Toyota Innova Hycross, on the other hand, gets a 2.0-litre petrol engine with a 1.6 kWh battery pack. Its hybrid system gives power of about 184 bhp and mileage of up to 22.16 kmpl.

Now comparing electric models, Hector Tomahawk EV has a 69.2 kWh battery pack. Its driving range on full charge is said to be around 517 kilometers, while the electric motor generates power of around 204 bhp.

Whereas Mahindra XEV 9S has been introduced with different battery options. It has 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh battery pack options.

Talking about the top variant, its range is said to be around 679 kilometers. Also, it claims to give more powerful performance than Hector Tomahawk EV with a power of about 286 bhp.

In this respect, XEV 9S emerges as a strong option for buyers who want long range and more power.

Who has the upper hand in price?

The starting ex-showroom price of Hector Tomahawk EV is said to be around Rs 19.5 lakh. Whereas with Battery-as-a-Service i.e. BAAS option, its starting price is said to be around Rs 13.9 lakh. However, under this scheme, a rental of about Rs 4.90 per kilometer will have to be paid for the use of battery.

In comparison, the starting price of Mahindra XEV 9S is said to be around Rs 20.6 lakh.

Talking about the hybrid model, the starting price of Hector Tomahawk PHEV is around Rs 25.7 lakh. Whereas the starting price of Toyota Innova Hycross is said to be around Rs 26 lakh. That means the starting prices of both are very close to each other.

Which SUV would be wiser to invest in?

Choosing the better option among the three vehicles depends on your needs.

Heavy city driving and low starting budget: Hector Tomahawk EV could be an attractive option.
