Land continuously merges into river, atmosphere of panic among villagers

Bhagalpur. A slight drop in the water level of Ganga and Kosi rivers was recorded in Navgachia sub-division of the district on Saturday, but the grave danger of flood and erosion in the coastal areas is not yet averted. Both the rivers remain in constant spate. Due to this, there is heavy water pressure on the ‘toe’ of the four most prominent sensitive embankments of the area.

According to the administrative report, river Ganga is still flowing 57 cm above the danger mark in Ismailpur-Bind Toli. At the same time, rapid erosion of rivers in Raghopur area has completely disrupted local life.

Many houses and agricultural lands are continuously getting submerged in the river, causing panic among the villagers. On the other hand, the water level of Kosi river in Madrauni and JB Chorhar area has reached very close to the danger mark.

According to the Water Resources Department and the local administration, the next 24 to 48 hours are considered very sensitive for the area. In view of the increasing pressure on the embankments, protective works have been intensified. The team of engineers is constantly monitoring the sensitive sites so that any emergency situation can be dealt with. People of the affected areas are being advised to move to safe places.
