Manchester United still have significant work to complete in the closing days of the summer transfer window.

Michael Carrick has already overseen seven new arrivals, with the £70 million signing of long-term target Carlos Baleba the standout addition. The Cameroon midfielder became United’s third midfield recruit of the summer after Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans joined for a combined £87 million.

With only a few days remaining until Deadline Day, Manchester United are still active in the market.

There are still doubts surrounding Marcus Rashford’s future, although a switch to a Premier League rival has been ruled out, while the club also remain interested in bringing in a new left-back.

With Luke Shaw, now entering the final year of his contract, currently the only recognised left-back in the first-team squad, Carrick is understood to be eager to strengthen that position ahead of United’s return to the Champions League.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde was looked at, but the proposed move was considered too expensive.

In an interesting development, young left-back Harry Amass has reportedly been informed that he can leave the club this summer, with United aiming to raise more money through academy departures.

Amass featured for United during pre-season but was left out of the squad for last weekend’s surprise 2-0 loss away to newly-promoted Hull.

Carrick said yesterday: “It comes to this stage and this is the stage of the window, there is always different scenarios. We’ve been really pleased with Harry, he’s done really well in pre-season.”

The 19-year-old could now follow fellow academy graduate Toby Collyer out of the club.

Collyer is set to complete a permanent move to West Brom in a deal worth an initial £3 million, with the fee potentially rising to £7.6 million through achievable add-ons.

The agreement is also expected to allow United to keep a 40 per cent sell-on clause.

The Athletic reports that Hull City and Middlesbrough also submitted offers for the 22-year-old, but Collyer has chosen to return to The Hawthorns after spending the first half of last season there on loan.

Joshua Zirkzee also looks likely to leave, with the forward said to be in talks with Fiorentina over a season-long loan move.
