It will be easy for Indian pharmaceutical companies to enter the market in Argentina, the government has prepared a big master plan.

New Delhi: It may be easier for Indian pharmaceutical companies to expand business in the Argentinian market. Argentina has committed to work towards facilitating the Indian pharmaceutical sector's access to its market and reducing regulatory barriers, the Commerce Ministry said on Saturday.

According to the government, this initiative is expected to create new business opportunities for Indian pharmaceutical companies in Argentina. Also, people in Argentina can have better access to quality and affordable health services and medicines.

Agreed to upgrade India from Annex-2 to Annex-1

According to the Commerce Ministry, Argentina has committed to move towards upgrading India's status in its drug regulatory framework from Annex-2 to Annex-1.

Along with this, work will also be done to reduce the existing barriers to market entry for the Indian pharmaceutical sector. This is expected to help Indian pharmaceutical companies expand their presence in the Argentinian market.

India-Argentina trade discussed in Buenos Aires

This issue figured prominently during the India-Argentina Joint Trade Committee (JTC) meeting. The meeting was held on 24 August 2026 at the Palacio San Martín in Buenos Aires.

India's Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal discussed issues to trade and economic cooperation between the two countries during his visit to Argentina.

Bilateral trade to cross $6.5 billion in 2025

Trade relations between India and Argentina have also expanded continuously. According to the Commerce Ministry, bilateral trade between the two countries is expected to exceed US$6.5 billion by 2025.

During this period, trade recorded a continuous growth of more than 17 percent annually. The two countries also discussed the possibilities of further expanding economic ties in the future.

Emphasis on investment in mining, energy and infrastructure

In the meeting of the Joint Trade Committee, investment possibilities not only in the pharmaceutical sector but also in many other important sectors were discussed.

Both sides discussed investment opportunities in mining, energy and infrastructure sectors. This is creating possibilities for furthering trade as well as investment relations between India and Argentina.

The possible change in Argentina's regulatory regime for the Indian pharmaceutical sector is being considered an important step towards expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
