Kathmandu. Due to continuous heavy rains and floods in Nepal, the situation remains serious in many areas. Relief and rescue operations are continuing amid rising water levels of rivers, landslides and disruption of road connectivity. According to the information released by the Nepal government, so far 114 Indian citizens have been evacuated safely.

In the list shared by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), a total of 187 people from 15 countries have been rescued. Apart from India, these include citizens of Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, China, Italy, Malta, Oman, Portugal, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and America. Among the rescued people, the highest number are 114 citizens of India, 27 from China and 20 from South Korea.

Still no contact with 420 tourists

Nepal Tourism Board quoted the Tourism Police and NDRRMA as saying that till 1:30 pm on August 29, 2026, 184 tourists have been rescued safely. Apart from this, three tourists are in contact with the authorities, while 420 tourists have not been contacted yet.

Search is on for stranded, injured or otherwise affected tourists and travelers in disaster-affected areas. Administration teams are busy taking them to safe places and providing necessary assistance.

Flood of 26th August caused devastation in many districts.

According to the information, the situation deteriorated after the severe floods in Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha districts on August 26, 2026. Nepal's Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal Tourism Board, Tourist Police and other concerned agencies are carrying out relief and rescue operations in coordination with government departments, security forces and local administration.

Road connectivity has been affected at many places due to floods and landslides. Along with evacuating people to safe places in the affected areas, information about missing tourists and travelers is being collected.

India's eye on the security of Indian citizens

Nepal is visited by a large number of Indian tourists, pilgrims, businessmen and other citizens. In such a situation, the Government of India is also continuously monitoring the situation regarding the safety of Indian citizens amid floods.

The Ministry of External Affairs has set up a 24-hour active control room in view of the flood situation in Nepal. Its objective is to provide necessary assistance to the affected Indian citizens and their families.

Coordination with diplomatic missions in gathering information about foreign citizens

According to Nepal Tourism Department, contact and coordination is also being done with the diplomatic missions of the respective countries to gather information regarding the foreign nationals affected by the disaster.

On August 28, Abraham Tan, First Secretary (Political) of the Singapore High Commission in New Delhi and Jenny Du Toit, Counselor (Management) and Consul of the New Zealand High Commission visited Nepal Tourism Board. He sought help in gathering information about those citizens of Singapore and New Zealand who have not been contacted yet.

Kathmandu-Mugling road operational

According to Nepal Tourism Board, the Kathmandu-Mugling road is fully operational and normal traffic is taking place on it. The road network is operating normally in other parts of the country except some road stretches affected by floods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha.

The administration has appealed to tourists and local people to follow the instructions of the local administration and security agencies in the affected areas and not take unnecessary risks.
