Delhi Police’s Special Cell has claimed to have busted an alleged espionage network linked to Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. A young couple from Delhi Mohammad Sahil and his wife Sameera have been arrested in this matter. According to the police, both the accused were in touch with Pakistani handlers since 2024 and allegedly joined the network through social media.
The police received information about a Pakistan-backed spy network active in the Delhi-NCR area. After that, the Special Cell team started the investigation. During the investigation, important information about attempts to obtain Indian SIM cards and send them to Pakistan came to light. According to police claims, Sahil came in contact with a Pakistani agent through Instagram in the year 2024. Investigation revealed that this contact was through his friend Samira. The two then got married and were put in touch with a purported Pakistani Intelligence Officer i.e. PIO.
On investigation, the police is said to have found that between 2024 and 2025, the couple had sent around eight Indian SIM cards to Pakistan through Dubai. In return he received around Rs. Police claim to have received 30 thousand. It is suspected that this SIM card was used to run a WhatsApp account in Pakistan and gain access to Indian WhatsApp groups to obtain sensitive information. In this case, the mobile phones of both the accused have been seized by the police. Police claim to have found evidence of alleged suspicious chats and conversations with Pakistani handlers during forensic investigations. Based on the information received after questioning Sahil, the police reached Sameera.
Police allege that Sameera was instrumental in procuring Indian SIM cards and delivering them to Pakistan. Alleged WhatsApp chats and conversations between Sahil, Sameera and Pakistan-based handlers have also been recovered from his mobile phone, it said. Currently, the Special Cell is probing the entire network. An investigation is underway into the role of Pakistani handlers, SIM card smuggling and others involved in this network. Legal confirmation of police allegations will be only after investigation and judicial process.
