Former Arsenal winger Willian has advised Gabriel Jesus against making a return to Brazilian football as uncertainty continues to grow over the striker's future in north London. With Palmeiras keeping a close watch on his situation before the transfer window closes, the 38-year-old has urged his fellow Brazilian to sort out his position and continue his career in the Premier League.

Striker faces uncertain future

The 29-year-old attacker is facing an increasingly unclear future at the Emirates Stadium after dropping down the pecking order following repeated injury setbacks and the arrival of new attacking options. Palmeiras are said to be interested in taking him back to Brazil, though Jesus is still under contract in north London until June 2027. Former Brazil team-mate Willian has told the forward to think carefully before completing any move away before the transfer deadline.

Willian urges English stay

Willian told Jesus to focus on prolonging his time in English football, speaking from his own difficult experience of going back home. In an interview with ESPN Brazil, the winger, who recently ended his contract with Gremio, said: "I would stay, based on the experience I had. I'd choose to stay and not leave. I'd try, somehow, to find another situation and keep playing there."

Traumatic homecoming offers warning

That warning comes from Willian's troubled spell after he left Arsenal to rejoin his boyhood club Corinthians in August 2021. His move back home ended with a mutual termination of his contract only 12 months later after safety threats were made against him and his family, which led to a swift return to England with Fulham.

Reflecting on his compatriot's situation in north London, Willian added: "It's a personal decision, one that only he can make, but from my own experience, I would definitely stay."

Transfer deadline decision looms

With Monday's transfer deadline approaching quickly, Jesus now has to make a rapid decision over his future. The forward has not featured in competitive action since scoring against Crystal Palace in late May, leaving him in urgent need of regular game time. Playing week in, week out will be vital if he wants to earn his place back in the Brazil squad.
