Once again the political excitement regarding reservation in Bihar has reached its peak. Senior leader and MLA Shyam Rajak of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's party Janata Dal United (JDU), who is part of Bihar's ruling NDA government, has adopted a tough stance on this sensitive issue. He has strongly opposed any efforts to review or change the reservation system.
'A situation like civil war may arise'
JDU leader Shyam Rajak said in a warning tone that if any kind of tampering is done with the reservation system in the country or state, it can lead to very serious consequences. He even said that if such a situation arises, a 'civil war-like situation' may arise.
This sharp statement of Shyam Rajak has come at a time when in view of the proposed protest by Bhim Army in the capital Patna, the police administration has tightened security arrangements in many ultra-sensitive areas including the Chief Minister's residence. However, he also clarified that this demonstration of Bhim Army is not on the issue of reservation system and in a democracy, it is the democratic right of every citizen to protest peacefully.
Demonstration at Jantar Mantar and meeting of JP Nadda
The strings of this political dispute arising in Bihar are also linked to the recent events in Delhi. In fact, Union Minister JP Nadda had met the representatives of 'Remove Reservation Movement' in Delhi last Thursday. Just a few days before this, hundreds of people had demonstrated at Jantar Mantar demanding reservation on economic basis only and government assistance instead of caste based reservation. The demonstration was organized on August 21 on the call of a campaign launched on social media.
Demand for transparency and investigation in recruitment examinations
Amidst the recent student movements and increased seats in Bihar Teacher Recruitment 2026 (TRE-4), the JDU leader also clarified the administrative stand. Shyam Rajak said that the government has accepted many legitimate demands of the agitating students. Along with this, he stressed that wherever there is a complaint of any kind of irregularity in any examination or recruitment process, there must be an impartial investigation.
After this tough stand of JDU on reservation, now there are full chances that the war of words between the party and the opposition in the politics of Bihar will intensify further.
