At present, a very big and shocking news is emerging from the global geo-politics and strategic corridors on the Asian front. Amidst the tense environment of Taiwan Strait and South China Sea, Dragon i.e. China has openly demonstrated its modern military capabilities by taking its naval and air power a step further. China has conducted a successful flight test of its state-of-the-art 'GJ-21 Stealth Attack Drone' this month amid the final sea trials of its most ambitious and world's first dedicated drone carrier warship 'Sichuan'. This test has once again given sleepless nights to defense analysts of the world including Western countries and India, because this technology has the potential to completely change the direction of future naval wars. South China Morning Post report and viral video on social media According to the recent report of 'South China Morning Post' (SCMP), a prestigious media organization that keeps an eye on defense matters around the world, some videos and visuals to the testing of this state-of-the-art stealth drone are becoming increasingly viral on social media platforms. These footage and reports show that the GJ-21 drone has flown over the city of Huludao in China's Lianning province. This area is considered a major center for aviation and technical tests of the Chinese Navy. As soon as the pictures to the test flight of this stealth drone became public, the discussion intensified in the global defense world about how fast China is moving forward in the combination of unmanned combat aircraft (UAVs) and aircraft carriers. 'Sichuan': The world's first drone carrier equipped with an electromagnetic catapult. At the center of all this military progress is China's new warship which is being called the world's first official 'drone carrier'. This Type 076 class ship, named 'Sichuan', is a giant and highly advanced amphibious assault ship weighing more than 40,000 tons. The biggest and revolutionary technical feature of this warship is that it is the first naval ship in the world to be equipped with the modern 'Electromagnetic Catapult System'. Compared to conventional munitions, electromagnetic technology helps in launching aircraft and drones faster, at very short distances and in extremely short periods of time. The range of strategic capabilities of this warship is very wide; Various types of unmanned and manned fixed-wing aircraft can be easily deployed on it along with conventional helicopters. Notably, the ship is perfectly designed to operate heavy and sophisticated stealth drones like the GJ-21 mid-sea. 'Sichuan' is in the final testing phase, may be included by the end of this year Computer-generated footage released by Chinese state media channel 'CCTV' over the past few months and satellite images recently taken near the Kingston Naval Base have confirmed that 'Sichuan' is going through the very final stages of its construction and testing. In satellite images, this huge warship has been seen practicing with other auxiliary naval ships. Defense experts estimate that by the end of 2026 or in the coming months, the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) will officially include it in its main naval fleet. With its induction, the Chinese Navy's ability to project power under the sea will increase manifold. Technical features and characteristics of GJ-21 stealth attack drone: Regarding this new drone test, defense analysts believe that the GJ-21 stealth attack drone is actually an advanced and specifically naval variant of China's already discussed 'GJ-11' drone. It was first partially displayed to the world during China's 'Victory Day Parade' held in September last year, after which there have been very few opportunities for it to be seen in public or tested. The stealth technology of this drone (Radar-Evading Stealth Technology) keeps it far away from the radar of the enemy, due to which it is capable of carrying out precise attacks on enemy targets without any prior warning. When such radar-defying stealth drones are launched from the middle of the sea from a drone carrier like 'Sichuan', it poses a huge challenge to the coastal security and air defense system of any country. Its impact on the Taiwan Strait and potential regional tensions It is noteworthy that this deadly combination of the Sichuan warship and the GJ-21 stealth drone has come at a time when geopolitical tensions are at their peak in the Indo-Pacific region, especially in the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea. Beijing has been steadily strengthening its military presence around Taiwan. 'Sichuan' can not only carry drones and aircraft, but this warship also has the ability to rapidly transport a large number of combat troops, heavy armored vehicles and amphibious vehicles from one place to another. This platform has been designed with the aim of giving China a strategic edge in the event of any possible future conflict or maritime naval war. Defense strategists in India and other neighboring countries are keeping a close eye on these emerging technological and naval successes of Beijing, as it could impact the security equations of the Indo-Pacific region in the long run.
