New Delhi, August 29 (IANS). Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Saturday called for transforming the National Testing House (NTH) into a leading global testing and certification organization whose certifications should be globally accepted along with expanding India's manufacturing capabilities.
Addressing the 115th Foundation Day celebrations of NTH after inaugurating the state-of-the-art building here, the Minister said the country is moving towards becoming a global manufacturing hub and there is a need for reliable domestic testing facilities to support this growth.
He said NTH should expand its capacity and enter emerging sectors like electric vehicles, renewable energy, aerospace, defense and electronics.
“We just need a good testing facility. People should be assured that if it has NTH certificate, they can buy the product without any worry. This arrangement will have to be made by NTH,” he said.
The minister said the government will consider converting NTH into a company, so that it can function with greater responsibility and ensure global acceptance of the certificates issued by it. We will try to make it a company where this certificate issuing company is recognized globally.
Joshi urged NTH to create more awareness about its testing capabilities among state governments and government departments and said some tenders still seek certification from foreign agencies and laboratories. As India moves towards greater self-reliance and reduced dependence on imports, NTH should prepare itself for testing domestically manufactured products and components.
Referring to the recently launched electric vehicle battery testing facility in Bengaluru, Joshi said such infrastructure will help ensure the safety and reliability of electric vehicles. NTH has expanded testing facilities for Coal, Solar Water Heaters, Solar Modules and Pressure Cookers, as well as provided online facility through NTH Suvidha Application to submit products for testing and receive results.
Joshi said NTH has received test samples from Sri Lanka, Dubai, Bahrain and Bhutan and described the development as a positive sign of growing international recognition.
