Milan have reached an agreement to send Santiago Gimenez to FC Porto, with multiple reports confirming the transfer will be a loan move with an option to buy that becomes compulsory if certain conditions are fulfilled, for a total package worth €20m.
The talks had been going on for some time, with the Mexico international having already been told that he was not in Ruben Amorim’s plans for the current season.
Porto had always been Gimenez’s preferred destination, especially because coach Francesco Farioli is a long-time admirer of the striker, but the two clubs initially found it difficult to settle the terms of the deal.
On 23 September 2025 at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Santiago Gimenez celebrated after scoring to put AC Milan 1-0 ahead in the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa Round of 16 match against US Lecce.
According to reports from sources including Milan specialist Daniele Longo, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, the agreement was finalised late on Saturday evening.
The decisive step in the negotiations was the inclusion of clauses that would turn the purchase option into an obligation, with the conditions understood to include the number of appearances Gimenez makes for the Portuguese club.
On 09 May 2025 at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Gimenez celebrated scoring AC Milan’s first goal in the Serie A match against Bologna.
There is no loan fee involved in the move, while the option to buy has been fixed at €18m, with a further €2m in add-ons.
Milan had spent more than €30m to sign Gimenez from Feyenoord in January 2025, but after making a promising start, he struggled because of poor form and injuries, including ankle surgery in December 2025.
He leaves the Rossoneri having scored seven goals and provided six assists in 37 competitive appearances.
