Kathmandu. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority on Sunday issued an urgent public safety alert for Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts after a sudden rise in the water level and flow of Bhotekoshi River in Nepal was reported. The authority has appealed to the people and relief teams living in low-lying areas of these districts to remain extremely alert and continuously monitor the situation. This warning has been issued for the same three districts which were already badly affected by the severe floods on August 26.
The sound of flood flow was heard again in the river
“District Administration Office, Rasuwa has received information that increased flood flow has been heard in Bhotekoshi River. Therefore, we request to exercise caution in the areas around the river up to Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading. Further information will be given as soon as additional information is received,” Nepal's Disaster Management Authority said in an official update released on Twitter.
675 died, 2,418 people missing
According to the latest data of the authority, so far 675 people have died due to the severe flood in Bhotekoshi river. Relief and rescue teams are continuously recovering bodies and human remains in low-lying areas. As of 6 pm, 2,418 people were either missing or could not be contacted. These also include 287 Indian citizens and 128 people of Indian origin, who are still out of contact.
Four Indian citizens were rescued safely.
Meanwhile, news of relief has also come to light. Four Indian nationals trapped in a hydroelectric project in Rasuwa were rescued safely on Sunday. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed this in its official statement issued on Saturday evening. Local administration and emergency services are on high alert and people living on the river banks are being appealed to move to safe places.
