Beijing: Following the sudden and devastating floods on the Tibet-Nepal border on August 26, 261 foreign nationals are still unaccounted for. According to Chinese officials, 49 Indian citizens are also among the missing. The incident took place at Jiarong Port, one of the major border posts between Tibet and Nepal.

According to the government news agency 'Xinhua', Chinese officials told a press conference held in Jiarong on Sunday that the missing 261 foreign nationals belong to 23 countries. Various government departments shared this information after jointly conducting search operations and collating the available information.

Most citizens of Nepal are missing

According to the report, those who have not been traced so far include 104 from Nepal, 49 from India, 33 from Latvia, 18 from America, 15 from Britain, six from Canada, six from Australia and four from South Africa. Apart from this, three citizens each from Malaysia, Germany and Russia, two each from Ireland, Estonia, France, Netherlands and New Zealand and one citizen each from Kazakhstan, Finland, Lithuania, Portugal, Ukraine, Spain and Hungary have also been reported missing.

Concern about Indians going on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Following the improvement in relations between China and India, a large number of Indian pilgrims had arrived in Tibet to participate in the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. It is being told that at the time of the flood, some Indian pilgrims were present in the Immigration Bhawan located on the Tibet-Nepal border. This flood caused massive devastation in Jiarong County of Tibet. Videos of the entire immigration building sinking in the flood have gone viral on social media.
