Miami could be the next stop for veteran forward John Koncharwho was waived tonight by Minnesota, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints (Twitter link). Siegel states that the Heat expressed interest in trading for Konchar before Memphis shipped him to Utah in February as part of the Jaren Jackson Jr. deal.

Miami still has one roster spot open after a flurry of recent moves that included adding free agents Klay Thompson and Nick Richards on standard contracts and re-signing Keshad Johnson to a two-way deal. The Heat are about $2.5MM below their first apron hard cap and have just enough room to add one more player on a veteran’s minimum salary.

Konchar only connected at 28.3% from three-point range last season, but he’s at 34.9% from beyond the arc for his career and could be a low-cost pickup for a team that needs shooters to surround Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. Konchar is expected to clear waivers on Monday and become an unrestricted free agent.

• The Heat have lost a player to a college team for the first time in franchise history, Ira Winderman of The Sun-Sentinel states in a subscriber-only story. Keyshawn Hallwho played last season at Auburn, was on the verge of accepting an Exhibit 10 contract and joining the team for training camp, according to Winderman. That would have given him a potential $91K guarantee if he wound up with Miami’s G League affiliate, but Hall opted for a bigger payday through NIL money at St. John’s. It will be the fifth collegiate team in five years for Hall, and Winderman points out that he’ll be eligible to rejoin the Heat or any other NBA team if the NCAA blocks him from coming back.
• Playing for Sweden in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers, Pelle Larsson is providing evidence that he can take over the sixth-man role vacated by Jaime Jaquez Jr.who was traded to Milwaukee in the Antetokounmpo deal, Winderman adds. Larsson scored 31 points on Thursday in a win over Finland and will face Victor Wembanyama and France on Sunday. “Just being aggressive, trying to attack every moment,” Larsson said. “… “Overall, just whenever I get the ball, I try to be aggressive. So they either got to let me score, foul me, or leave an open guy.”
• In an appearance Saturday on SiriusXM NBA Radio (Twitter audio link), Winderman suggested that Erik Spoelstra might consider moving into a front office job with the Heat after serving as head coach for Team USA in the 2028 Olympics. However, Winderman made it clear that it was just speculation, adding, “But who knows, maybe he’s one of those coaching lifers.” Spoelstra, who signed a $120MM extension two years ago, has been Miami’s head coach since 2008.
