Many people are still missing after the massive floods in Nepal and Tibet. These include Hemangini Jitendra Patel of Indian origin living in Britain. Her daughter Tulsi Patel has traced the last known whereabouts of her mother and aunt through a video found on social media. The family is continuously hoping that both of them will be found safely.
Hemangini Patel had gone on a pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar with her sister Hema Sunil Amin. Both of them had prepared for this journey a long time ago and were excited about it. The family’s last conversation with him was on Monday. The next day he also received a photograph of both of them.
The last GPS location of the tour group was found to be Friendship Bridge located on the Nepal-China border. After this the family started searching for him on the internet. Meanwhile, a video posted on the TikTok account of a Nepalese tour guide surfaced.
In the video, Hemangini, her sister and some other members of the tour group were seen waiting to cross the border. It was told that this video was recorded at around 6 am on Wednesday, a few hours before the flood.
Delay in crossing the border due to bad weather
According to Tulsi Patel, her mother and aunt were to cross the border on Tuesday, but the journey was delayed due to bad weather. Since then, the family tried to contact both the women and their tour guide through various mediums including WhatsApp, but could not get any information.
Tulsi said that the family had also considered going to Nepal and searching on their own, but this plan had to be stopped as the conditions to reach the affected area were not clear. Despite this, the family has not given up hope and they say that it is very important for relief and rescue teams to reach the missing people at the ground level.
Many people who went on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra are still missing
After this disaster in Nepal, many people who had gone to Tibet for pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar are also reported missing. These include 51 year old Neetu Goyal Tiwari. According to her family, she had gone on her long-desired ‘dream trip’. The family is searching for her with the help of local people and contacts and fear that she may still be in China.
Many families from Britain arrived in search of missing relatives
At the same time, many families from Britain are reaching Nepal to search for their missing relatives. Lena Bector, 53, of Slough, is also among the missing passengers. Her husband Bhupesh Bector has decided to go to Kathmandu in search of a wife. He said that whether he meets Leena today or tomorrow, it is most important for him to be with her in this difficult time.
