Amidst the preparations for the 2027 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, farmer issues seem to be coming to the center once again in the politics of Western UP. Amidst the ongoing political tussle between SP and RLD, Congress has prepared a big campaign to strengthen its hold among the farmers. The party is going to take out 'Kisan Adhikar Yatra' from 7th September.
Starting from Muzaffarnagar, this yatra will pass through seven districts of western UP and will conclude at Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar on September 13. Congress's focus is on raising issues to farming by communicating directly with farmers and strengthening its political presence in rural areas before 2027.
Kisan Adhikar Yatra will start from Muzaffarnagar on 7th September. After this, it will reach Jewar on 13th September via Shamli, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad and Hapur. The yatra will be halted at the headquarters of the assembly constituency in every district. During the yatra, there will be direct communication with farmers, farm laborers, women farmers, rural youth, cattle rearers and other sections to agriculture. Congress will make the rising prices of fertilizers and seeds, fair prices of crops, farmers' rights and local problems the main issues.
Congress's entry into the stronghold of farmer politics
Western UP is considered a strong center of farmer politics. RLD has had influence in Muzaffarnagar and surrounding areas for a long time. In such a situation, this visit of Congress is being seen as an attempt to strengthen its political ground in Western UP before the 2027 elections. Amidst the recent political tussle between SP-RLD, Congress is trying to create its own identity through farmers' issues. The party's emphasis will be on increasing access to villages and making farmers' problems a direct political issue.
Big leaders including Ajay Rai will show the green flag
The Yatra will be flagged off by Congress' UP in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam, State Congress President Ajay Rai and UP co-in-charge Secretary Sanjeev Arya. To conduct the yatra, the party has entrusted the responsibility of coordination to the leaders in all the seven districts. Harendra Tyagi will take charge in Muzaffarnagar, Alam Gurjar in Shamli, Yogesh Pradhan in Baghpat and Avnish Kajla and Qari Irfan in Meerut. Narendra Singh Chauhan, Sunil Verma and Vivek Tyagi in Ghaziabad, Sushil Sharma and Dr. Mohammad Shoaib in Hapur and Dinesh Awana, Shahabuddin and Jaichand Chaudhary in Gautam Buddha Nagar will be responsible for coordinating the yatra.
Political journey of seven districts in seven days
This visit of Congress will not be limited to just farmer dialogue, but will also be an opportunity for the party to activate the organization in Western UP. In this 7-day long campaign, Congress will present its policies and issues among the farmers and will also highlight their local problems. This farmer campaign of Congress in Western UP before the 2027 assembly elections is politically important because the party is trying to regain its lost political ground in the region by increasing its activism among the farmer vote bank.
