Activist Sonam Wangchuk is once again in the news. This time the reason is Salman Khan’s old social media post, in which the actor had appealed to him to end his hunger strike and said, ‘Sonam, it’s done brother.’ This line later went viral on social media and became a part of memes. Now Wangchuk has given his reaction on that comment of Salman.

In Prakhar Gupta’s YouTube podcast, Sonam Wangchuk was shown a T-shirt on which the same famous line of Salman Khan was written. Wangchuk took it in stride and even agreed to keep the T-shirt. When asked about Salman’s comment, Wangchuk said that every person may have his own compulsions and many things have to be kept in mind in public life. However, he also clarified that he respects Salman.

Salman had appealed to students and Wangchuk

Actually, during the students’ protest against the alleged paper leak of NEET exam, Salman Khan had posted on social media about his concern. He had said that he was happy to see the students raising their voice to demand better education system and security. The next day, Salman appealed to the students to end their protest and return to their homes. In the same post, he had also asked Sonam Wangchuk to end her hunger strike. Salman had also offered to send home-cooked food to Wangchuk.

From hunger strike to reaching the hospital

Sonam Wangchuk started an indefinite hunger strike in support of students at Jantar Mantar on 28 June. His performance also received support from many Bollywood celebrities. Later, following the order of Delhi High Court, the police admitted him to the hospital, where he continued his protest.

Later, the movement ended after consensus was reached on some demands including the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and not taking action against the protesters. Meanwhile, Salman Khan’s statement ‘Sonam, it’s done brother’ had become a big topic of discussion on social media.
