The final match of Hockey World Cup 2026 was played between Germany and Spain on 30 August. This match took place at the Belpheus Hockey Arena in Wavre, Belgium. Germany defeated Spain 1-0 to win the Men's Hockey World Cup title for the second consecutive time.

There was a tough competition between the two teams in the final match. There were not many chances for goals in most parts of the match. However, at the end of the third quarter, Michel Struthoff scored to give Germany the lead. This goal proved decisive in the end. With this victory, Germany also won its fourth Hockey World Cup title.

Germany created pressure from the beginning

Germany started the match with a strong attack. The team tried to put pressure on Spain's defense through counter attack. Thais Prinz, Christopher Ruhr and Paul-Philippe Kaufmann made some great moves together. Germany also got a penalty corner within 90 seconds of the start of the match. However, Benedict Schwarzhaupt's drag flick was stopped by Spain goalkeeper Luis Calzado. After this, Spain strengthened its defense and did not give Germany many chances inside the circle.

Spain failed to capitalize on the opportunity

Spain struggled to find its rhythm in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the team showed better coordination and was successful in passing the ball from the midfield to the forward players. Borja Lacalle fired a powerful shot from the edge of the circle but was stopped by Germany goalkeeper Jean-Paul Danneberg. Spain got three penalty corners in the third quarter but Pepe Cunil and captain Mark Miralles could not convert them.

Germany's title confirmed with Struthoff's goal

At the end of the third quarter, Germany got the success it was waiting for. Hannes Müller passed the ball to Struthoff above the circle. Struthoff dodged the Spanish goalkeeper and sent the ball into the goal with a reverse shot.

Spain tried with all its might in the last minutes to equalize. About four minutes before the end of the match, he replaced goalkeeper Calzado and introduced an extra field player but could not penetrate Germany's defence.
