In many cases, the car can be restarted with the help of another correct battery and jump cables. However, it is extremely important to get the cables in the correct order when jump starting, as incorrect connections can damage the car's electrical system. The problem of battery weakening is more common especially in rainy and cold weather.

The car may give some signals before the battery is completely drained. If a clicking noise is heard when starting the engine, the headlights become brighter than usual, or the power window operates slower than before, it may be a sign of a weak battery. If you get such signs, it is better to get the battery checked. This can avoid the problem of the car suddenly stopping on the way. If the battery goes down and you have to jump start, then first of all you will need a car whose battery is in good condition. Apart from this, good quality jump cable is also necessary. Park both the cars side by side in a safe and level place, but keep in mind that the two cars should not touch each other. Turn off the engines of both cars, put the gear in park or neutral and apply the parking brake. Also switch off headlights, music system, AC and other electrical items.

Now the most important step is to get the jump cables in the correct order. First of all, connect one end of the red cable to the positive terminal of the closed car battery. This terminal is usually marked with '+' or 'POS'. After this, connect the other end of the red cable to the positive terminal of the car with the correct battery. Then connect one end of the black cable to the negative terminal on the car with the correct battery marked '-' or 'NEG'. It is better to connect the other end of the black cable to a clean, unpainted, sturdy metal surface near the engine rather than the negative terminal on the dead car battery. Be very careful when connecting cables and do not let the red and black clips touch each other.

After checking all connections, start the car with the correct battery first. Leave the engine running for a few minutes so that the dead car's battery can get some energy. After this try to start your car. When the car starts, do not stop the engine immediately and leave it running for some time. If the car does not start, recheck the cable connections instead of trying again and again. Even after this, if the problem persists, it is better to take help from a mechanic or roadside assistance. Keep in mind that jump start is useful only in battery problems. If the problem is with the starter, alternator or any other electrical part, the jump start will not start the car.
