Ipswich Town head to Old Trafford on Sunday in search of an uncommon result at a venue where they have managed just one win across their last eight visits.

Gary O’Neil’s team come into the game in high spirits after defeating Sunderland with a stoppage-time winner on the opening weekend of their return to the top flight, and the occasion has been heightened further by the arrival of a high-profile new signing.

O’Neil confirmed that Azor Matusiwa and Jack Taylor “won’t be involved”, while Jaden Philogene is “week to week” because of his ankle problem. Florentino Luís is still a doubt, with O’Neil saying: “We’re hoping Florentino might be back,” though he did not go as far as confirming that he will feature.

Exequiel Palacios, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen this week for a reported fee of around £20m, is expected to be involved after training with his new teammates. O’Neil said: “I’m sure we’ll see Exequiel on Sunday.”

Dara O’Shea and Marcelino Núñez, who scored twice including a 45-yard effort against Sunderland, are both likely to start for a third match in a row, while Jack Clarke — whose 90th-minute winner secured victory over his former club — is pressing for a return to the starting side after beginning on the bench.

Ipswich Town possible starting XI (4-2-3-1): Scherpen; O’Shea, Diop, Greaves, Davis; Núñez, Lukic; Clarke, Enciso, Maeda; Emersonn

The Premier League fixture is scheduled to kick off at 16:30 BST on Sunday, 30 August 2026.

The match will be shown live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.
