According to trade sources, Indian refineries shipped approximately one million barrels of petrol to Russia between July and August. This supply is mainly from the Vadinar refinery in Gujarat. But the refinery is run by Naira Energy which has a partnership with Russian company Rosneft.

Russia has large reserves of crude oil, but attacks on its refining capacity have exacerbated these problems. Repairing damaged refineries is time-consuming, as many require special equipment. The constant threat of attacks is making it difficult for some refineries to operate at full capacity. As a result of all these things, Russia needed to find an alternative.
